Refund & Cancellation Policy

Last updated April 24, 2026

The short version

  • Cancel anytime from your billing portal — no phone call, no retention questions.
  • When you cancel, you keep access until the end of the billing period you've already paid for.
  • 14-day money-back guarantee on your first paid charge for any subscription tier.
  • Profile boost purchases are non-refundable once the boost has started running.
  • We don't pro-rate partial months. We don't auto-charge after cancellation.

Subscription cancellations

SkillRoot subscriptions (Supporter, Champion, Co-op Supporter, and Co-op Champion) renew automatically each month or year on the anniversary of your first paid charge. You can cancel at any time through your subscription page, which opens the secure Stripe billing portal.

After cancellation:

  • You keep all paid features until the end of the current period.
  • You won't be charged again. Your card stays on file with Stripe only so you can re-subscribe in one click later.
  • Your account, skills, connections, and reviews stay intact — you simply revert to the free tier with a 25-mile match radius and 10 skill slots per type.

Refunds

We want SkillRoot to feel fair. If something didn't work out, we'll refund your subscription under these conditions:

14-day first-charge guarantee

If you request a refund within 14 days of your very first paid charge for a given plan, we'll refund 100% — no questions asked. Email hello@skillrootwv.com from the address on your account.

Annual plans

Annual plans are eligible for a pro-rated refund of unused full months within the first 30 days. After 30 days, annual plans are non-refundable but you keep access through the end of the year.

Duplicate or accidental charges

Refunded in full as soon as we verify the duplicate (typically within 2 business days).

Service outage

If SkillRoot is materially unavailable for more than 72 consecutive hours, we'll credit or refund a pro-rated portion of your subscription on request.

Profile boosts & one-time purchases

Boost purchases (7-day, 14-day, 30-day) are one-time charges. They begin running immediately after checkout and are non-refundable once active. If a boost fails to activate due to a technical issue on our side, we will either re-run it or refund the full amount — your choice.

Sponsored gifts & co-op billing

Sponsored Supporter gifts (paid by one neighbor for another) follow the same 14-day first-charge rule and may be refunded to the sponsor if the recipient hasn't yet redeemed the code. Once redeemed, the gift is non-refundable.

Co-op subscriptions are managed by the co-op owner. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period and downgrade the entire co-op to the free tier.

How to request a refund

  1. Email hello@skillrootwv.com from the address on your SkillRoot account.
  2. Include the date of the charge and (if you have it) the Stripe receipt number.
  3. We respond within 2 business days. Approved refunds typically appear on your statement within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.

Disputes & chargebacks

If something doesn't look right, please reach out before disputing with your bank — we can almost always resolve it faster directly. Repeated chargebacks made without first contacting us may result in account suspension.
